The Planned Parenthood defunding conversation is one that can get legislators and regular people very heated. With the information provided in this blog we have shown that defunding of Planned Parenthood can cause real problems for those who truly need it.
One argument to defund Planned Parenthood is that they are a leading provider for family planning services. According to the Planned Parenthood FAQ page, it not only provides prevention from pregnancy but also resources for prevention of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. It provides more than 295,000 Pap tests and 320,000 breast exams which are all critical services to help poor women screen for cancers. Also, they help educate and build outreach programs for 1.5 million young people and adults in a single year. Planned Parenthood has 10 million activists, supporters, and donors working for women’s health and safety and fundamental reproductive rights. Defunding the program would put a financial strain on women but also take away education material from those seeking it where its easily available.
As debates continue, politicians will not quit their fight to end PP funding. Unfortunately, they ignore the economic benefit of the company. The ability of women to receive 
services like family planning has been show to increase women’s participation in the labor force allowing more women to provide for their families and contribute to daily citizenship. Also, family planning has given women the ability to attain education, increasing wages and lifetime earnings.
Lastly, due to the Hyde Amendment we can put to rest the accusations that Planned Parenthood federal funding goes towards abortions. Instead funding that Planned Parenthood receives comes from Medicaid reimbursements and citizen’s are not paying for abortions.
Without ALL the services of Planned Parenthood, women would face a catastrophic challenge. Though other health centers may be available, they still will not be enough due to the fact that they are not required to serve the poorest of the poor. Hopefully, research can be done to improve people’s opinions about Planned Parenthood and activists continue to fight for a basic human right of healthcare.
